The Word Became Flesh ~
I love these verses, it's like reading poetry.
First, the Word (big W - this is Jesus) is the Creator of the Universe & everything in it. He has been there since the beginning. He exists outside of time. And yet, this ultimate Creator lowered Himself to earth, took on a human body, & suffered for us. Incredible!
Second, John the Baptist fulfilled a very important role - he proclaimed the coming of the awaited Messiah.
Finally, Jesus Christ is the one whom John foretold.
This is the thesis of John's gospel. What was foretold from the beginning has taken place. Prophecy has been fulfilled. The Messiah has come. The remainder of John's book will detail exactly how & why the Messiah has come, but for now glory in the fact that God has been made known.
